Every year I travel to Guangzhou for the Canton Fair, the oldest and largest trade fair in China. Buyers often search for Canton Fair cost, Canton Fair prices, and Canton Fair fees before they fly. Some mean the trip and ticket. Others mean the product quote they get at a booth. Hundreds of manufacturers display their products to buyers from around the world, and we attend to discover new products and stay sharp on the market. It is an impressive event, and I recommend it to anyone sourcing from China. But after years of walking those halls, I noticed something that surprises most first-time visitors: the prices manufacturers quote at the fair are not the best prices you can get. I will talk about that, and everything else you need to know about the Canton Fair, in this blog.
Canton Fair cost at a glance
| Cost | What to budget |
|---|---|
| Trip | Flights, hotel, local transport, meals, and days on site, before you buy a unit |
| Badge | Free if you register online through official channels |
| Booth quote | A starting sheet. On products I already buy, fair quotes often sit 20–30% above real market price |
| After the fair | Compare that sheet to factory prices across China before you place the order |
- Trip cost: flights, hotel, local transport, meals, and days on site add up before you buy a single unit
- Ticket / badge: overseas buyer registration through official channels. If you register online, the badge is free.
- Booth quote: the quotation the seller gives you at the fair. This is not always the best price, and I will explain why.
- Price gap I see: fair quotes on products I already buy often sit 20–30% above real market price
- What the fair is good for: product discovery, samples, contacts, and face-to-face supplier checks
- What to do after: compare the fair sheet to factory prices across China before you place the order
How much does the Canton Fair cost to attend?
Canton Fair cost for a visitor is mostly travel expenses. The badge is free.
Budget for:
- Round-trip flights to Guangzhou
- Hotel for the nights you stay. Prices jump during fair weeks. Book early. The closer you are to the fair, the more expensive the hotel gets.
- Local transport between the hotel and Pazhou complex (pro tip: use ride-hailing, not a regular taxi)
- Meals and a buffer for samples or courier fees if you ship catalogs home
- Your time. Each day at the fair is a day you are not running your business back home
I do not publish a single dollar total. Origin city, hotel class, and how many phases you walk change the bill a lot. For most overseas buyers the trip is the expensive part.
If you only need a price check on one known product, flying in for the fair can cost more than a remote research job. Compare that trip budget to our pricing before you book.
Use the following tips to reduce your travel cost. This is based on years of direct experience, so take it seriously.
- Hotel prices increase at least 50% a month before the fair starts. So book early if you can. The closer your hotel is to the Canton Fair, the more expensive it gets.
- Due to the large number of visitors, the metro lines get packed in the morning. Guangzhou has an excellent public transport system, but if you do not want to travel in a packed carriage, use ride-hailing. Avoid regular taxis as much as you can. They will try to charge about 5× the price of ride-hailing. You can call a car with Amap or Didi inside Alipay. It is the cheapest and most convenient option. And yes, there will be traffic in the morning, so leave your hotel early.
- There are restaurants inside the Canton Fair complex. You can find Chinese food and low-quality Western pizza. Prices are usually higher than outside, but that beats wasting time looking for a restaurant outside.
Canton Fair ticket cost and how to book
Overseas buyers usually register on the official Canton Fair buyer channels and collect a buyer badge on site. Rules can change by session, so check the current registration page.
How to book in practice:
- Confirm which phase matches your product category (Phase 1, 2, or 3). You can choose all.
- Register as a buyer through the fair’s official site.
- Bring your passport when you go. Open the website, log in, and scan a QR code.
- After filling out a short form, place your passport on the badge printer machines to get a visitor badge.
Exhibitors pay for booth space. That is a different Canton Fair fee from the visitor badge. If you are buying, you are not paying booth rent. You are paying for travel and for the goods later, if you decide to buy.
Canton Fair 2026 dates, phases, and hours
The 140th Canton Fair is the autumn session. It runs in Guangzhou from 15 October to 4 November 2026. The spring 2026 session is already over. I take the dates below from the official general information page on cantonfair.org.cn.
| Phase | Dates | Products on the floor |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | 15-19 October 2026 | Appliances, consumer electronics, machinery, vehicles and parts, lighting, hardware, and tools |
| Phase 2 | 23-27 October 2026 | Kitchenware, home decorations, gifts, furniture, and building materials |
| Phase 3 | 31 October-4 November 2026 | Clothing, shoes, bags, textiles, toys, office supplies, food, and medical products |
The halls open at 9:30 and close at 18:00. The venue is the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Pazhou, No. 382 Yuejiang Zhong Road, Guangzhou.
Book the hotel for the phase that holds your product. A badge for the wrong week puts you in the wrong halls. The official page lists more product names than this table. Check that list before you fly.
Canton Fair cost 2026: what changes year to year
For Canton Fair cost 2026, treat dates and phase maps as the parts that move. Spring and autumn sessions still run in phases. Exact calendar days shift each year. Registration steps on site can shift too.
What does not change much:
- Hotels near Pazhou fill up and rise in price during fair weeks
- Booth product quotes still behave like fair quotes, not like quiet factory negotiation
- For online overseas buyer registration, the visitor badge stays free; your trip budget is still the real cost
Before you fly in 2026, pull the official phase dates and registration instructions for that session. Do not plan halls from a previous year’s PDF.
Can anyone attend the Canton Fair?
Not as a walk-in tourist attraction. The Canton Fair is a trade fair for buyers and related business visitors. You need valid registration and a badge for the days and phases you enter. Your visitor badge will have a QR code that you need to scan to enter the venue.
Students, casual travelers, and people without buyer credentials usually cannot walk the halls the way they walk a public expo. If you want in, register early and bring the paperwork the fair asks for.
Children are not a fit for a full sourcing day. The complex is large, crowded, and built for trade talks.
Can you go to the Canton Fair with a tourist visa?
Many overseas visitors enter China on a tourist visa and attend with a proper buyer badge. Visa rules depend on your passport and change over time. I am not a visa agent. Confirm the current China visa type you need with your consulate or a qualified visa service before you book non-refundable hotels.
A tourist visa gets you into the country. You still need buyer registration and a fair badge for the halls. If the fair accepts your registration with your current visa, tourist or not, you can enter the venue.
Is one day enough for the Canton Fair?
One day is enough only if you already know the exact hall, the product category, and a short supplier shortlist. The complex is huge. Each session splits into phases by product group. If your category spans more than one phase, one calendar day cannot cover it. When I visit, one day is not even enough for one phase of the fair. But I check almost everything. So if you know exactly what you need, one day can be enough. If you are there to discover new products, plan for 5+ days.
A realistic first visit:
- One full day for the main halls in your category
- Buffer time for badge pick-up, security lines, and walking between halls
- A second day if you want return visits to shortlisted booths
If you try to cover every hall in one day, you will mostly walk and collect business cards. You will not compare specs carefully.
Tips for attending the Canton Fair
None of this means you should skip the Canton Fair. It remains a great place to see products, meet manufacturers face to face, and understand what is out there. The mistake is treating it as a purchasing trip.
Treat it as a discovery and relationship-building trip instead. Collect samples, catalogs, and contacts. Compare what you see across booths and categories. Take notes on specifications and claimed prices, but do not assume the number on the fair quotation is the best price you can get when it is time to buy in volume.
Practical tips from years of walking those halls:
- Arrive with a short product brief: materials, sizes, target MOQ, and must-have certifications
- Photograph the quote sheet, the sample, and the booth number in the same set of photos
- Ask who owns the factory and where it sits. Trading companies and factories both exhibit.
- Do not wire a deposit on the fair floor because the atmosphere feels urgent
- Compare the quotations you got with other similar manufacturers at the fair
My Own Price Test
Most international visitors assume that flying to China and talking directly to the factory cuts out the middleman. No sourcing agent, direct contact with the manufacturer. It should be cheaper, right? Not quite.
I tested this myself. I walked up to several manufacturers and asked for quotes on products I already know inside out, items we source regularly and whose real market price I can verify. The quotes they gave me at the fair were 20 to 30 percent above actual market price. And this was not limited to one category. It was consistent across the board.
What makes this worth paying attention to is the baseline. These were not products I was guessing about. They were items I buy at real market prices on a regular basis. If a seller quotes me, someone who knows the market, 20 to 30 percent above that level, a first-time visitor with no reference price has little chance of spotting the gap.
Why Sellers Have the Edge
Two things work against the visitor at the fair. First, sellers reason that if you flew all the way to China, you have the budget. The trip itself signals intent and money, and quotes are shaped accordingly.
Second, Chinese salespeople are genuinely excellent at closing deals in person. The fair environment works in their favour. You are on their home ground, on a tight schedule, surrounded by crowds of other buyers who all seem ready to sign. That atmosphere pushes visitors toward accepting the number on the sheet rather than negotiating it down to the real market level.
After the Fair
The real pricing work begins after you leave Guangzhou. Once you know what product you want, the job is to find the real market price across China, not the fair price from a single booth on a single day.
A fair booth gives you one manufacturer's price at one moment, shaped by the dynamics described above. The broader market, spread across factories all over China, is where the real price forms. Checking a fair quote against that broader market is the step most visitors skip.
That is where a sourcing company like ours can help. We search across all of China to find the real market price for your product. If you came back from the fair with a quote in hand, send it to us and let us check it against the broader market before you commit to an order.
Conclusion
Budget the trip, take the free badge, and treat the booth number as a starting sheet. The fair is for discovery and face-to-face checks. The order price still has to be checked against factories after you leave Guangzhou.
