What Nanjing factories make
Production sits in districts, and in neighboring cities you reach on a high-speed train that runs at 300 to 350 km/h. Nanjing is a tier 2 city, though some people call it tier 1. It used to be the capital of China.

Jiangning is the biggest district. A Nanjing address on a listing often means the office is in the city and the yard is in Jiangning. Get the plant address before you treat that quote as a Nanjing factory price.
Lishui shows up on visits when the part has to fit a car, a medical device, or a tool. Those plants usually ask for heavier compliance paperwork than a simple consumer SKU.
Use Jiangbei for packaging materials and industrial inputs. Finished consumer gadgets belong in another district, or in another city.
What Nanjing Is Strong At
Three groups cover most of the foreign RFQs we get about Nanjing manufacturing.
Electronics and electronic information. Displays, components, related assembly, and the suppliers that feed those lines. We start in Jiangning.
Automotive and NEV. Parts, cable assemblies, plastic and metal components, and equipment around EV supply chains. Whole vehicles are rarely the importer job. Parts and subsystems are. There are a lot of car factories here, so their suppliers sit in Nanjing or in the cities next door. For this group we check Lishui first.
Medical devices and life-health manufacturing. Hardware, consumables, and park-based makers that need heavy compliance documents. On the drive from home to work I pass more than 10 medical product manufacturers. The category is normal on that road. Whether a plant can export your spec is a separate check.
Smart manufacturing equipment and CNC work in Lishui also show up in quotes. Steel, petrochemical, and grid gear exist in the wider region. Most first-time importers do not start there, and we do not send them there.
What Nanjing Is Weak At
Fast fashion, cheap generic gadgets with dozens of identical Alibaba listings, and ultra-low-MOQ novelty items often price better in Guangzhou or Shenzhen. If that is the product, start there.
A standard catalog SKU at a modest order value can stay on Alibaba. Read do you need a China sourcing agent. Nanjing pays off when someone has to walk the plant, the spec is technical, or a wrong plant on a large order costs real money.
Trading companies also sit in city offices while the plant is somewhere else. I have worked with a lot of manufacturers whose headquarters are in Nanjing and whose machines are in the next city. We go to the headquarters, talk through the project, and visit the factory the same afternoon. That pattern is normal in China. The same-day visit is what keeps you from paying a city-office margin for a plant you never see. DIY Alibaba vs a Nanjing Team
Alibaba is fine when the product is simple, the reviews are solid, and the order is small. You chat, you pay, and you hope the sample matches bulk.
On custom, technical, or high-value orders, someone from Nanjing can drive to Jiangning or Lishui, walk the factory, check the tooling, and catch a QC problem before the container loads. A correction at the plant can happen the same week. Shipping a sample to your country and back can burn a month, and production still has not started. That is the work we do daily.
How do I choose a Nanjing factory?
Send four lines with the RFQ, then read the table.
- Product category.
- The risk you care about most: MOQ, tooling, compliance, or QC drift.
- Whether the supplier gave a plant address, or only a Nanjing office.
- Whether you already have a sample in hand.
Jiangning, Lishui, and Jiangbei call for the plant address and a same-day visit from Nanjing. For Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Yiwu, start the search in that hub. Changzhou, Zhenjiang, and Yangzhou can share one trip with a Nanjing office, even when the machines are in the next city.

Conclusion
Start in Jiangning, Lishui, or Jiangbei when the product fits those districts and you have a plant address. Start in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, or Yiwu when the product belongs there. Neighboring cities on the high-speed line can share one Nanjing trip.
